Teacher Feature

 

 

 

 

 

Jeff Carter graduated from Marian University with a degree in Spanish and Secondary Education in 2001. After graduation, he began teaching Spanish at Clay Middle School in Carmel, IN for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. He is currently finishing his tenth year of teaching and is currently coaching cross country and track at Clay. During his time at Clay, Jeff has earned two Masters Degree s in Secondary Education and Adult and Community Education through Ball State University. Outside of school, Jeff is married and has two daughters whose ages are five and eight. He enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, and fishing.

Leap into Digital Learning

 

Happy Digital Learnin g Day! IOA Leaps into Digital Learning Month with our student sharing project.  We would like our current students to submit a video, blog, wiki, or other digital project that answers the following question:  How do digital media tools direct your own learning through the Indiana Online Academy? This project is worth extra credit in your current IOA class.  Please check with your teacher for more details on the amount of extra credit in your class.  All submissions must be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by midnight on February 17.  We will need your name, school, IOA class & IOA teacher.  The projects will be showcased in our marketing material and on this IOA Spotlight.  Be creative and have fun!  Remember to check with your teacher for more details on this exciting project!

IOA to present at iNACOL

IOA has been accepted to present at iNACOL's Virtual School Symposium (VSS) on November 10 & 11, 2011.  iNACOL is the International Association for K-12 Online Learning with over 3,800 members.  The VSS is located in downtown Indianapolis and brings educators from around the world.  IOA two presentations highlight the successful summer school program and how students are empowered with online learning.  Student representatives, IOA teachers, school administrators and IOA staff will help make up the panel.  IOA is pleased to be chosen to speak at this national conference.

Students Speak Out

Listen to this podcast of four students from Fishers HS, Speedway HS, Pike HS and Guerin Catholic school on Expanding Opportunities and Closing Gaps in K12 Education with Multiple Online Learning Models.  This panel discussion took place at the Virtual School Symposium in Indianapolis in November2011.  Some of the students have taken online classes with IOA and others discuss the blended and 1:1 model.  We are proud of the students who represented IOA and Indianapolis in such a positive way.  Julie Young, President & CEO of Florida Virtual School was the moderator for the session.
